This book is probably the bible of small subs and is unfortunately out of print. I was able to locate a copy over the net a couple of months ago for about $130. Not cheap but a wealth of information. You might also check you local library...mine has a copy and it's not that big of a library. Online: Manned Submersibles Index

Canada V6R 3K6 Phone / Fax: (604) 731-5565 Pages: Year: ISBN: Cost: Synop.: This book is written for children but is not a child's book. It has a ton of information in basic form, some experiments that will interest those with zero to some experience, and some interesting projects. It also has a sort of fundamental baseline of information on hydrodynamics, pressure vessels, propulsion and the like. Might find that it whets the appetite for more, and that it might educate enough so that valid questions can be formed. Index

Title: Midget Submarines of the Second World War Author: Paul J. Kemp Pub.: Chatham, London. Available from US Naval Institute. Pages: 128, illus Year: 1999 ISBN: 1-86176-042-6 Cost: $55 Synop.: This new book is much more about the design of these boats than his previous work. Included are good sections on the Biber, Seehund and the X-Craft (other midgets and "human torpedoes", and chariots are also presented, though not in as great detail). Both INTERNAL and external drawings are included. A fold out sheet is included of the Seehund and X-Craft (very useful for modeling). If you can't get the multi-sheet plans that Doug (SeaLordOne) referred to for the X-Craft, this book will suffice as a second source. Not quite as detailed in the interior plans, but still very useful. Furthermore, technical details of these midget subs are provided at a level I've not seen in previous texts on the subject. There are, of course, the same photos I've seen in other books, but there are here new photos not before published, especially of the INTERIORS of the X-Craft, the Biber and the Seehund. If you considering building a 1 ATM sub, this is a good source of historical information on midget submarines. Brian Danielson. Index

Box 65283 Vancouver, WA phone: (360) 576-3997 Pages: Year: 1965 ISBN: Cost: Synop.: This book covers an array of fluid dynamic shapes along with theory and test data. There's even a section on water craft, surface and submerged. Even though much of this work was done for air craft, it really applies to any fluid medium, just be sure to use the proper terms for water instead of air. I hope this helps, Ken Schulze Index

About half the book is about his naval career which is composed of many adventures including operating on US Naval submarines and being a Military Naval Attache. The other half is about his adventures in civilian life. The most interesting part of George's civilian life to this web site is his adventures with designing, manufacturing and selling his small submarines.
