The oxygen is used in the chemical process that makes volts out of potential.

As to the dsl sub, it was another hull. I think he had the engine from somewhere else, got it mounted in the hull, and then sort of trailed off into other areas of interest. Useful? I don't know. That little motor is mounted about two inches aft of the pilot's lower unit. It would be hot and MAN would it be noisy.
