Hi Brian,
I have been perusing this very issue myself recently but, from the perspective of where and if to place a chain locker. I decided to wait until I can get a better handle on w & b and specific design arrangement before deciding.
As for anchoring, as a boat owner for many years, your ground tackle should be matched to your displacement, scope payed out, and the holding ground expected..ie sand, rocks, mud, grass beds....etc. A submarine would ride at anchor similar to a heavy displacement sailboat, both low in the water with a lot of wetted surface, but the sub would provide less windage as you point out.
Check out westmarine.com and go to west advisor regarding anchoring for more specifics.
Hope to be of help
Joe

Subject: [PSUBS-MAILIST] anchoring a sub
Date: Tue, 10 Jan 2006 21:58:02 -0800
Hi All,Does anybody know the dynamics involved with anchoring a sub. Like would a hook for a typical sailboat be sufficient? It seems to me a sub would stay put better than a sailboat since a sub would not have any wind force on it. But on the other hand the mass of the sub might tend to just hank the anchor away. Unless the anchor was very secure, in which case the sub could just go under water if there was a large swell. Anyone have any experiance with this? Thanks,Brian
