Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] supercavitating small sub - request for proposals - a taker

I get a crush depth of just 52fsw
for a 26" OD, 0.5" shell thickness. This is with no flanges or frames.

Here's another resource to check out though. Roger Cortesi at MIT has a
page up on the crush depth of simple cylinders. With your shell thickness
to OD ratio, 0.0192, it looks like the pipe should handle 300m before
buckling. Just take a look at the spreadsheet - it should open fine in
OpenOffice.

D: many thanks!!! I'd hate to need more than 1ATM air pressure.
Then I'd feel a need to build in a valve that allows me to depressurize in what is effectively a hyperbaric chamber. Though I guess that is optional to deal with pressure buildup anyway.

Anybody bother to attach 'seawater battery' of sorts - magnesium anode, to prevent seawater corroding their metal hulls?

I'd be curious how modest flanges change the #s.

I am curious about having the fold-out-along-circumference mid-sub at centre-of-balance fins providing lift. I like idea of floating to the surface if the propellor stops. Maybe in combination with adjustable ballast, so that it can always rise if the ballast tank is not filled with water, while alllowing push as deep as possible while moving?

Cheers.
