RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Re: Acrylic Viewports

There's a good photo of DELTA conning tower viewports at http://freenet-homepage.de/unterseeboot/delta.htm

Check it out.  Looks pretty clear to me that the viewports are drilled and bolted to the hull through the acrylic.  Jay, also check page 275 in Stachiw's book for an interesting comparison.  Some modifications have been made over the years, so why not the viewport housings? (that's rhetorical)

I've haven't seen any evidence on deltaoceanographics website that the sub is ABS certified.  It would be nice to have confirmation of that.

Then correct my last since she is ABS certified (but may have a waiver if she was pre-spec built), what you may be seeing is a guard over the port proper.  After the accident in one of these subs where the port was shattered, Plexiglas or acrylic impact guards were installed over the ports.  This may be what you are seeing bolted on.

I doubt the window plexi is drilled. Their sub is ABS certified. I'll let you know after I visit. Frank D.
