Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Pipe nipples\sources.

James,

It doesn't really matter what valves you use. If your making the conning tower mounted valves as it is on the prints, then using the Worchester for that is a good idea since you know they come apart easily and it's clear how to convert them. But the rest of the plumbing and valves can be from anything you have readily available.

It's best if you use stainless valves and piping, but not a must. The swage lock system is good, easy to work with and alter, but it's not cheep. If you find good valves with tapered pipe thread just screw in swage lock adapters and you have swage lock valves at a much cheaper price.

In my sub, other then the two Worchester valves, I used all 1/4 turn stainless steel ball valves right out of the McMaster-Carr catalog. All my swage lock fitting and stainless steel tubing came from there also. In fact most of the small stuff for my sub came from McMaster-Carr.

Hi All.

Speaking of sources, i am trying to get hold of the required plumbing bits and bobs i need for the next stage on my build. Mainly for the VBT at the moment.

Going into my local stores and asking for "Swagelok 810 - 8" or "Worcester Valves" as specified on the plans leads to the usual "sucking in of breath", pulling faces and suggestions of all sorts of other things i should be using instead. "we sell loads of these, made in Italy"...etc

Could someone give me some advice on valves and these Swagelok parts. Im not really familiar with them and my local shops are of no use. I'm tempted to use lance valves for all the valves.

? Any suggestions ?

Thanks
James
