RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] MBT Vents

On the regular K design the valve is screwed to the coning tower from the inside and simply has a layer of sealant between the valve body and the tower wall. No O-rings or anything. I've had issues with this arrangement leaking, and on the new boat I've put in a proper SS through-hull for the stem, which is sealed with an O-ring plus a backup. However, I will say even when the K version leaks it's an irritant rather than a danger. In my experience these leaks have taken the form of a "weep" or slow drip, not anything that could actually flood the boat in any meaningful way.

How is the valve handle sealed at the point where it penetrates the hull ? I've seen both configurations but couldn't see how the handle penetration is sealed.
