Cliff has a good idea with the thread-o-lets for places where a disk won't
work. They are pretty economical to buy and are real thick at the base where the
welding occurs. Made for this application. Pressure vessels and pipe lines all
use this method in commercial apps. The part can be ordered with various
profiles at the base for different applications like a relatively flat pressure
vessel or a small diameter ( 2-3 ) inch pipe. To eliminate the extra threaded
short nipple on a ball valve connection, just use ball valves with male
threads.A little more money for that type of valve, but not a lot.
