[Fwd: Forward looking sounder]
This discussion was going on in a newsgroup rec.boats.electronics. It
seems relevant for obstacle avoidance.

For a sailboat I'm looking for a "Forward looking sounder" and have found
one (Echopilot Compact FLS) which according to the brochures does the job
of showing me bottom for collision avoidance. But I would like to compare
it with the competition. Hoes anyone heard of another brand
Thanks,
Joachim Brolin

Call Interphase Tech. at 408.426.2007 and ask for literature on their

I think that one of the important difference is the oppdate rate of the
screen and there
I give Echopilot a higher score. By the way here is the adresse to
Intherphase Sea Scout.

they have more products that could be of interess when you neeed to scan
underwater

Another factor is sensitivity to mid-water targets such as floating
debris and schools of bait. Interphase sonars probably perform better
in this department. Interphase also has vertical scan, horizontal scan,
combined vertical -or- horizontal in one unit, and a new PC-interface
sonar. Would be best to do a direct comparison in your specific
conditions and application, but difficult to arrange. :)
