Crew Compartment Inside, from about the main hatch looking fwd. Hatches are to diver lockout chamber and battery room beyond. Green machines in lower left of photo are pumps and red valves are for the pumping and trim manifolds. Attack periscope in middle with hand grips folded up. Just to right of periscope is seat and steering wheel of helmsman. Periscope motor drum to right. Wooden deck flooring above rusty tank top. rk 20 June 1999

Fwd Pump Manifold Fwd pump on port side of control room. Note that the valve handles are all at different heights, some with disks. This is possible for identification of correct valve in dark. On floor is wooden platform on top of a rusty tank top. The pump is on top of a tank that ran down both sides of the control cabin. To left of photo is periscope. Per notes, the second valve from right was labled "FORD TRIM DISCH OVERBOARD". Per notes, forth valve from right was labled "No2 MAIN BALLAST". rk 20 June 1999

Aft Pump Manifold One of the pumps on port side, one that was the most aftward. Looking at the valves. Looked like most of the pipes were capped off. I think there must of been more pipes then this when the X-24 was operational. Per notes the third knob from left was labled "AFT TRIM DISCHARGE OVERBOARD". rk 20 June 1999

Diver Lockout Chamber and Battery Room Good view through diver lockout chamber into battery room. Hatch door on left swung fwd to seal off battery room and hatch door on right swung aft to seal off the crew compartment from the diver lockout chamber. Oval looking wood seat on stainless steel bowl on diver lockout chamber was the only toilet. Flat platform in battery room was for sleeping. It was over where the batteries were kept. Not a popular place to sleep, if you rolled over and your hand fell on top of a battery you could get a nasty burn. rk 20 June 1999

Periscope Pericope. From aft looking forward. You can see the area extended above hull so you can almost stand up to use the periscope. Note periscope lifting cables. Board behind pericope is to hold some museum lighting equipment. Just above board on left side is a brass cylinder opject. The operates the swivel shutter over the port view port. rk 20 June 1999

Plane and Throttle Control Planesman position. The outer wheel controlled the planes the inner wheel was a backup for the helmsman (rudder). To left of wheels is the engine control box. Shafts behind wheels are the control shafts. The one that is continuous out both sides if the the rudder. Going to left to the helmsman. This was on the starboard side. Just behind the wheels, arrow pointing up as seen through top of bigger wheel was rudder indicator:

The curved brass box with brass levers to left of the wheels is the engine control box. Reading from left to right, "Tail Clutch", "Engine Clutch", "Engine Throttle", and "Engine Cut Out":
