We should have plenty of 120 AC power for charging everyone's sub batteries and all are welcome to charge up, free of charge (pun). But really, its not like we are going to ask for money to charge some batteries for a few hours. We also have extension cords to run into subs for charging, but I would advise all who are bringing boats to bring their own cords so we don't end up running out! As to the private ramp, it is made of concrete. We have a key for the lock and all are welcome to use it as our guests. As Jon mentioned, there is also adequate launching facilities in the lagoon, including another ramp and the gantry crane. I'm sure there would be a fee invovled with the ganrty crane, not sure about the public ramp, I can look into it though. As Jon stated, the visibility is usually quite good. Understandably, it won't be as good in the lagoon because of increased traffic, but even still 7- 10 feet minimum should be expected on / near the bottom assuming adequate sunlight. The bay is also pretty clear, although as it gets windier, the waves will stir the sand. This should not be an issue because if it is really windy, we'll probably elect to stay in the sheltered lagoon area. ~ Douglas S. Please call them asap to reserve your room. I have inquired if more rooms will be available when these fill up but can't make any guarantee. It's always nice to be at the same hotel as everyone else so you can connect when convenient. The hotel has the contract in hand now so you can use "Submarine Convention" when you call OR you can reserve your room online. From landnsea1 at hawaiiantel.net Thu Jul 18 14:36:21 2013 From: landnsea1 at hawaiiantel.net (Land N Sea) Date: Thu, 18 Jul 2013 08:36:21 -1000 Subject: [Member-Forum] sandblasting Message-ID: <0CD884FE097B499FBD9AAE328498D5D0@LandNSeaPC> I finally got all the components sandblasted for my K-350. I built an 8'X8'X8' visqueen shed in my shop with one side that isn't secured so I could access it with my forklift as he blasted things but the deflecting grit and air volume was too much for it and the staples started ripping out so I had to move the operation outside. I wanted it inside as it would be easy to reclaim the grit and use again having a concrete floor plus we get rain every afternoon usually so didn't want that to effect his progress. Unfortunately he is the only mobile sandblaster on the Island so I had no options and when I asked him for a quote he gave me a price and said I had to also provide the compressor and sand as well. Before I could move him outside, my shop got completely covered in grit so I will be sweeping and vacuuming for days. I was surprised to see that he didn't' have a sandblast hood that has the positive air flow from the compressor for safety and visibility reasons but was really surprised when I popped outside the shop to see him doing it bare chested! Paradise isn't all that it's cracked up to be. I taped all the sealing surfaces and threw hulls that had the O ring grooves and explained to him that those areas could NOT be blasted but he kind of got them anyway so am a little concerned about water ingress by the O rings but hopefully it's not that bad. I tried wiping the blasted steel with a acquire thinner to remove any oil and impregnated moisture but was impossible to do with the surface being so rough so I switched to using a rose bud to remove any moisture which was evident when I hit it with the rose bud but it was a slow process and I was also concerned that I might warp something so I gave that up and just tried to apply the primer as soon as he was done with an object. He was here 8 hours and by the time I got a coat of primer on the last thing blasted it was 8:45 PM. I had a quick sandwich and went to bed and it was my birthday to boot. I guess if it was easy everyone would be doing it! enough crying on your shoulders, I better get sweeping. I included a picture above for your enjoyment.....
