As you make your way to Florida here are some updates on the week ahead.

ATTENDING SUBMARINES.
Up until mid-January we had five submarines committed to attending. Unfortunately, two vessels “George” and “VAST” have had to drop out. Submarine “George” had an unexpected and last minute conflict. Submarine VAST experienced a broken axle 1000 miles into its journey to Florida and had to be left for repairs in Arizona. Of the three vessels remaining, only Shackleton will be diving off-shore. Snoopy and Aquatic, having just finished retrofitting, will be limited to sea trials in the canal at Doug Suhr’s residence.

DIVE OPERATIONS.
We have had a less than stellar response from the local community for volunteers to help us with surface boat support. To ensure we can accommodate everyone we will need to not only self-fund, but also rely on some of you folks to help out in other roles.

1) We need volunteers who have some boating experience and would be willing to pilot the rental boats.
2) We need volunteers who have an interest in acting as backup safety diver.
3) We need to know how many are interested in watching dive operations from the boat. Please remember you will likely be out on the water a good part, if not most of the day.

Please respond if you can fill any of these roles.

FIRST DAY LOGISTICS
Please plan on being at Doug Suhr’s residence, 276 Costa Bravo Dr in Islamorada, around 9am on Weds Feb 11.

WEATHER
The weather has been up and down the entire month of January with temps well below normal for here in the Keys. However, the forecast for all of next week is showing sun and temps hovering around 70. Please note there is almost always wind in the keys which will make you feel a bit chillier. While I don't believe you will need winter coats, sweatshirts would be an extremely good idea especially for going out at night. The sun will be strong however regardless of temp and wind. Bring suntan lotion and large beach hats if you have them. They will come in very handy when being on the water most of the day.

Looking forward to seeing you all.
Jon
