Scott,
You can use JB weld, we all have some in our tool box.  It will come apart if you hear it up.  I use it all the time for just this sort of thing.

If you want to glue a metal canister shut and it be water tight, but still want the ability to take it apart on rare occasions what would you use? I tried silicone and it failed. Any ideas?
