Jerry,

You mentioned that you've made a lot of changes in your design  over the 
past few months as we all do.  Of course that continues to  happen during the 
build phase as well.  

Instead of beginning the build phase with the hull, I  think it makes good 
sense to first construct all systems and components and  install and test 
them on a full size mockup.  It's almost inevitable that  the process of 
installing systems will cause you to modify the mockup hull, add  or move 
penetrations, etc. which is a heck of a lot easier to do than  modifying the real 
hull or having to accept limitations which could have been  avoided.

Another advantage is that once the hull is fabricated, it can  go directly 
to interior and exterior paint and corrosion proofing.  Move  the systems to 
the hull and you're getting close to done.

Alan,
The research that I have done indicates  that the Lithium Phosphate 
batteries do not have the thermal runaway
that  other Lithium batteries do. Also they last for up to 3000 cycles 
where lead  acid batteries are much less, 
and that makes the cost lower. I am also  waiting to see what develops in 
the lithium batteries. 
Just completed  building a new poll shed for my build. Now I have to move 
my lathe and mill  into place. I have put in an 
overhead lift that runs the entire length of  the building. 
The first of my steel should be here in about two or three  weeks.

Jerry,there are lots of submersible  manufacturers using lithium 
batteries.Nuytco are now using them on there Deep  Worker 2000.I have a 48V 40ah 
lifepo4 battery pack for testing my thrusters  on.I am holding off from 
purchasing batteries for my sub build till the last  minute, as thereare promising 
developments with Lithium Sulphur batteries.  These have5 x the capacity of 
lithium iron batteries. Currently they don't  demonstrate enoughcharging 
cycles to be used for electric vehicles, but there  are $millions being 
pouredinto research on this problem by several large  players throughout the

Hi all,

I  have been in the process of design for sub now for almost 9 months.
I have  been reading all the e-mails that come across and have changed my 
design  
many times over the course of the last months.

I am planning on  using Lithium Phosphate batteries for the power. Lower 
weight per unit,  physical size, and power cycles.
Has anyone tried this yet? What do you all  think of this idea.
Looking forward to seeing your opinions.

Good point to make a  sgt.Peppers a little bigger. ?I rebfit it and dived 
with the sgt. Peppers. For  both is 560 mm a bit cramped. 650-700 mm hull dia 
would be fine. Easy to make  is capable for 300 ft.

Always good to look to K250 or other plans ?to  make a start.

I'm looking into building  a one person submersible next year but need some 
help getting started.  ?

The plane is to build it around the size of the Sgt. Peppers  submersible 
but a little bigger. ?(I want it smaller than the K-250). ?Also  I'm looking 
at having a working depth at around 150-200 feet. ?Any suggestions  on where 
to get started? ?Should I by the plans for the K-250 and make it  smaller?

I don't know if it helps or not but I'm located in  Lawrence, Kansas. ?

?? ? ? ? ? ?(And I won't be the first person to  build a submersible in 
Kansas because it looks like that there's a man (Scott  Waters) from Salina, KS 
that built a k-350.)

I think emile has a small ish boat  requiring refurbishment for sale?
Probably worth the cost of shipping it  over the pond to not have to build
from scratch.

That really doesn't help me much because  I'm planning on moving across the 
pond in around two years!

I'm  looking at a small project that would teach me all the systems so when 
I move  across the pond, I would like to build something along the Euronaut 
size or a  tiny bit smaller.

I've also debated if I should do a wet-sub  instead because if I go that 
route, I wouldn't have to build a pressure hull.  ?That would only limit me 
down to 130 foot allowed for recreational  diving.
