Hi Jon,
My Minn Kotas  leaked oil through the shaft seal and gaskets in the housing. This is probably because both oils that I used (Baby oil first then tried WD40) were too thin.Thin oil also travels through stranded wire so the terminations need to be sealed in a way that stops oil too.Thicker silicon based oil with the right potting on the wire would probably solve those issues.
