Hello submadmans. Steafan and I from the Euronaut Team
just back from a nice weekend on a lake called Helene See, two hours
east from Berlin, Germany near the Polish border.
Reinhard and Monika's "Nemo" was there launched on 6 January 2006 and
christened on 7th. Reinhard and Mirco (his son) make the dive trip for
the christened ceremony, and Claudia (Mircos girlfriend) push one small
glass of orignial russian champagne to the boat - while the team and
friends around Monika and us drunk the rest of the bottle empty. It
was a great launching party - and together with a lake party. We had a
firework during the launching party and some thousand (!) visitors saw
the first offical dive. Some open fires all around the beach to warm up
the people a little. We had also some Model aircrafts around and a
real helicopter shows how to get divers out of the water with a winch.
This dive was very funny. On friday the boat did 2-3 dives without any
problem up to 7,5 meter (24 ft ). Over night it was on the trailer
onshore. The weather was very clear and cold about -8,5 C degree. Two
TV-teams was there to film the ceromony and the dive. Time pressure and
the pressure of the views of thousands of guests makes everbody of the
sub team quick and hurry.
Reinhard and Mirco open the MBT vales - and nothing was happend ! The
short pipes on top of the valves was frozen with ice. Mirco open the
hatch again and attack the ice with a knife some minutes until the valves
holes comes open and Nemo starts to dive. The boat dive quickly to the
bottom and stays here - no control over the hardballast bouancy tank
(the water inside was maybe also frozen). Unlucky the mainballast tank
valves are still frozen in open position and the crew has to wait a
couple of minutes underwater on the bottom until the +4 degree lake
water melt the ice. Than close the top valves, blow the tanks and back to the
sun.
Later on we have a party on the beach in a big tent with live music and
so on. The new Clubhouse of the local dive club looks inside also like
a submarine - great ideal!! Was a great weekend, meet some new friends -
and thousand of people have fun with a tiny small two man submarine.
Please note that the car on the trailerramp is a G-Mercedes Jeep - do
not copy this with a normal pickup or Jeep..
