Silent Runner II is a two man submarine basically built
around a discarded jet aircraft drop tank. Air is supplied from
a standard 72 cu. ft. scuba tank with a single hose regulator.
The propulsion units are two electric trolling motors, and current
is supplied from three 12-volt automotive or deep cycle marine
batteries. The sub's maximum running time on a full charge is
about 4 hours.
The Skipper of the sub rides inside the enclosed cabin in an
air pocket. His diving buddy, wearing full scuba gear, rides outside
in a forward lookout position.

Negative buoyancy is achieved by operating a variable buoyancy
valve. The two motors are tilted up or down to achieve thrust
in the direction desired. Turns are made by cutting one motor
or the other. Tou can reverse one motor and run the other forward
for an even sharper turn.

The sub was featured in Popular Mechanics Magazine and on the
cover. It has also been featured on The David Frost Show on TV
