I think there is a way to beat the system.  Give the sub to a museum, 
with the
deed of gift requiring that it never be in such a state that it could 
float.   The
Aluminaut is almost completely ready to diver again, with most of its parts
back in the state they were when it was active.  But the hull is split 
in two
places.  Kids love it that way.
