RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] concept sketch
Sean
If they do last 35 years would they eve have to be removed?
I do see your point about the problem with size and weight
distribution. Any design would have to factor this in right from the
start.

Hmmm. Maybe. At 14" x 14" x 58" it would be difficult to use the
available space effectively, as is the case with most of the available
larger industrial batteries. Whatever I use must be easily manoeuvred
through an access hatch, moved to its installation location, and
installed in a configuration that makes effective use of the available
space. I was thinking more along the lines of banks of ordinary sized
Optima (or similar) batteries, which would allow more freedom with
weight distribution, and also installation and removal without needing a
crane. Those nuke sub cells would need to be wheeled under the
machinery space access hatch and lifted out with some sort of cradle,
unless they were permanenly installed (requiring a drydock for
installation / removal), as is the case with the engine. I'd like to
avoid that if at all possible.
