If you manufacture an item that requires a particular maintenance 
regime, and you make a point of documenting those maintenance procedures 
and their required schedule, and when selling your sub you get the 
subsequent owner to sign an acknowledgement of the need for this 
maintenance, I presume that your liability would be limited in the case 
of a failure causing injury or death, if it could be determined that the 
cause of failure was ignored or deferred maintenance?

Scary stuff for sure.  I wonder then, what the cost of building to ABS 
is compared to the cost of not being able to resell.  Maybe something to 
consider?
