RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Viewport for K350

Years ago, George Kittredge took one of his subs (a K-350 or K-600) to what
is now Cradderrock, the Navy's testing facility outside of Washington, DC,
for a pressure test. The hull experienced no damage well past it's
limits...it was the viewport that finally imploded. THICKER IS BETTER!

Bob,

Things haven't changed in the plastic world. I don't know who told you,
you don't need plexi that thick, but if I were you I'd ask this guy to sit
in your sub on it first deep water test to report or any problems with a
thinner Plexiglas.

The main viewport is 1.500 inches thick. I know some K-350 builders that
have substituted 2 inch thick Plexiglas. Use what the plans call for or
thicker. Even if it's over kill, it's one less thing to worry about when
your diving it.
