Hi all,
Here's a quick update on the 2006 US PSUBS Convention, which is now less than 2 months off. We've had confirmation from eight sub owners who will be attending with their subs:
Gary Sluis
Leslie Katschor
Dan
Brewer
Harold Maynard
Greg Cottrell
Mark Ragan
Alec Smyth
Dan
Hryhorcoff (partial availability)
The
speaker list is finalized as well:
Greg Cottrell: Greg Cottrell
will speak about fabrication of acrylic viewports. Greg is an expert on plastics
who has designed and built his own 3 person submarine. He fabricated the
viewports on most of the submarines attending the convention. He often does
projects for the Smithsonian Institution, including the acrylic covering for the
Apollo 11 command module .
Mark Ragan: Mark
Ragan will speak about Confederate submarines. Mark was the project historian on
the Hunley project and has published several books on the topic as well as
appeared in television documentaries. Mark operates a 2 person sub near
Annapolis, with which he offers sub piloting lessons to the
public.
Dave Coakley: Dave Coakley will speak about
dynamic stability of subs. Dave is a PhD in mechanical engineering and works for
the Navy at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division, formerly David
Taylor Model Basin. In this capacity he performs stability and performance
simulations of towed bodies and self propelled bodies, among other
duties.
I will shortly be sending out a message to about 200 email addresses of people who might be interested in the event, ranging from nearby dive clubs to the Smithsonian. So this is a good time to register if you want to secure a spot. Registration forms are online on www.psubs.org.
thanks,
Alec
