Hi
all,
Just a quick update
on the convention logistics.
We're confirmed in
the visitor center conference room for our presentations. This is great
news, because being federal property, we were unsure whether it could be
used for our event. The room is ideal, it's got a built-in rear projection
screen and PC, and it's within
walking distance from where dinner will be, as well as from our campsite. We've got the
room free of charge, with the caveat that members of the public are allowed to
attend if interested.
The Visitor's Bureau
is going to be working with John Gaertner to
write a press release and get it to the media.
For my
part, I also did an email blast to about 200 addresses of local people who could
potentially be interested in PSUBS. Places like NGOs that deal in ocean
conservation, dive clubs, etc. I haven't received any responses, but in the
email I asked the recipients to forward the
event information to any party they felt might be
interested.
The marina
restaurant is mailing me a dinner menu so we can plan our evening event. A
representative dish including side and drink was priced at $7.75, so our
registration fee should cover costs just fine. I've told them tentatively that
we'd have dinner at 5:30 and presentations would start at 7
pm.
The Corps of
Engineers has decided to let us dive anywhere in the lake, not just in a
designated area. That said, it'll be a very good idea to drop a dive flag float
wherever you're diving. And there is one area in particular that has been highly
recommended by virtually everyone as the best dive location in the
lake.
If you want to attend, please sign up before all spaces
are gone...
thanks,
Alec
