[PSUBS-MAILIST] convention info from Alec Smyth

Hi all,

Here are some logistics details for those attending the convention this week
(Friday).

If you are looking up driving directions online, the "town" and zip code are
as follows: Hesston, PA 16647. The park is called Seven Points, but as far
as I can tell there is no actual street address. I normally use Mapquest for
everything, but be forewarned it let me down when I traveled to Raystown
Lake to scout it out for the convention. So in this instance I recommend
getting your driving directions by checking a paper map the old fashioned
way.

Once you reach Seven Points Park, the first thing to do is go to the visitor
center and check in. We will be in a campground called Big Meadow, but I'm
not sure the exact site numbers, those might be assigned when we get there.
On the attached aerial photo, I've marked Big Meadow with a yellow ellipse,
but there are good signs inside the park.

Friday has no programmed activities until a cookout in the evening. Sub
owners and other convention participants will probably be arriving at all
different times during the day, and for my part I expect to be there by
about 11 AM. If you want to locate the subs, I would suggest starting with
the boat ramp, which I've marked with a blue ellipse on the attached photo.
Failing that, go to the area marked with a red ellipse, which is where I
expect we'll be diving. If boat-less, go to the campsite named Senoia which
has a beach right on the dive spot. We have no pre-determined boat crews,
since the waterborne activities are not centrally planned as part of the
event. I suggest folks just band together in an impromptu manner and if
needs be rent their rides at Seven Points Marina, which is right next to the
ramp. If you want to reserve something in advance, here's the link:

Sub owners, please be sure to locate Doug Farrow prior to your first dive.
Although each sub owner is free to dive independently, we've nominated Doug
to act as surface support coordinator. He'll keep tabs on when and where
each sub is submerging, and of it's expected surfacing time, so that he can
account for all subs at all times. Be sure to carry a timer in your subs so
you know to come up at the agreed interval. I'm taking a dive flag buoy and
have told the local authorities that we'll use that to indicate to other
boaters that they should stay clear of the area.

Our evening cookout is at a picnic shelter called the Oak Pavilion. I'd
suggest we start congregating there around 5 pm.

I believe PSUBS has a limit of 50 kb for attachments, so I've resized the
attached photo to be well below that limit. Hopefully it'll go through, but
if not I'll reduce it even further and resend. You can get the full blown
version minus ellipses by searching on "Seven Points Marina" or "Seven
Points Campground" on Google Earth. The marina web page has a nice shot too.

thanks,

Alec
