RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Venturi vs Kort Nozzle?

Joe,
I found this link that calculates venturi effects.

Hi George,

With your ROV experience, the issue of increasing available thrust is not new to you of course.

To my knowledge, the only difference here is the foil section on the kort nozzle would be harder to replicate for a homebuilder than say a simple constriction...(venturi). To get that foil section on a kort perfect and even all the way around x 2 or 3 thrusters...is a bit of a challenge from a construction standpoint.

Obviously, the Kort is the preferred method (numbers used in the field) but, I found it interesting to see a simple venturi on a well known commercial submersible. It just makes for an interesting simple option to look at.

Yea, ...you've'e just got to smile at HURL!
