RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] A Solution

Giuseppe,

You still do not need elevator pontoons if you have a perforated deck across your pontoon hull as Joe suggests and you use the partitioned hulls to submerge only the bow of your pontoon boat to float the sub off.

I have just a big problem i can't move the subs from the water with a trailer, also my location is very hard place!!! i need to recovery the subs on a pontoon  for fill tanks and charge batteries, i leave everythings on water for all summer season .......Have you seen the subs?

Regards

Giuseppe

Giuseppe,

Why build a separate submersible platform when all you need to do is flood one end of your pontoon floats (if modular) to incline the deck and float the sub off?

i just finish to drawing a pontoon with a platform in the middle for lift a subs, the lift is able to move about 4000 lbs.

I need for move my subs on the dive site and also for fill tank & batteries

Is an idea ........;-)

I'm liking the sound of this. Can we stand on the ballast tanks and pee over the side? Vance

Vance,

At first glance yes, it does look just like the LRT barge, but deceptively simpler.

It's a grated platform, over I beams, straddling the pontoons. Once the pontoons would be flooded, that structure would act as ballast for the floats above. This is directly stolen (borrowed) from hydrohoist.

That's also why I drew two cg's, if you have to lower the cg to position 2 for surface running stability, it would be a relatively simple affair of calculating how much weight to suspend (permanently) between the I beams.

Caveat....as Jay points out, calm water situation required, so no Haulover Inlet for me. I would be strictly limited to whatever would be in range of the Stilts Ville channel, or whatever similar situation i can find.

Our summers are pretty flat eh?..... Got yourself caught with a boomer line heading your way this afternoon ??? Leave the LRT flooded down to it's floats on the hook, stand off the sub likewise on its own hook, and wait it out aboard the support boat. Things seem to get even "flatter" after those little summer squalls.

Bit of a chop kicked up since this morning eh???.....drag everything back inside to still waters and load up!

This limits you Vance, but you know the areas I'm talking about. This little (LRT), if it proves mathematically viable, (and I will check that when I can)....along with that little straight sided houseboat barge, translates to margaritas and starlit nights for weeks at a time! :)

Joe, Is it a barge or a boat? If you're going to tow it anyway, then you might want to put the generator/compressor on your tow boat. Use some high pressure bottles on the tow raft to blow ballast, and recharge from over there where the cold beer is. Vance

Incidentally.....this is not fully submersible as the LRT barge, it is semi-submersible. The level of upper flotation is set to float the sub off the deck by (X)"....(better be a damn nice flat day too)!

If this proves mathematically stable enough to be viable, you would launch this from a standard trailer, in "skinny water", then tow to the dive site, just like the LRT barge, then vent down the pontoons. Your 1500w generator, blower and other goodies stay dry above on top of either aluminum, or composite foam filled floats.

Gentlemen,

I seem to keep coming back to this particular solution, probably because as a mechanical guy...I can figure out how to build this. As a pilot, I can visualize CG, W&B and forces at work, but what I am not......is an engineer.

That lack of knowledge and my desire to build a successful and uniquely spectacular project, is partly the impetus to pursue Naval Architecture,.... but I am not there yet. I do not yet know how to calculate for surface stability of floating bodies, but I do have an idea of what's required.

the link below is in case the photo won't load

My post to Rick about width is what it is.....a guess. Would this be unstable at 8.5' ???, the key is in the math. Somewhere in here is the answer to this particular option. I'll let Jay speak to the sea sled option as it's beyond my ability to envision it.

Thanks to everyone for the participation, the results are self evident.

Joe
