[PSUBS-MAILIST] Minn Kotas

On the motors, I'm talking to the tech reps at Johnson to see about buying pieces directly from them. There is no point in buying the double unit as it stands as it will have to be modified for our use anyway. I'd be more prone to buying those particular motors, as they already have some kind of penetration in them to keep the water out, rather than the screw in shafts, which are only potted in place. If we could get a case of these things with motor controllers on pigtails, ready to be wired, then maybe we could adapt the things with less money. As for compensation, I have zero experience with it on these particular motors. However, it seems to work just fine with the bone simple little tygon compensating bladders, so why not? Somebody needs to ask Karl what he thinks and how his system works, just for a comparison.

Subject: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Rigging Motor Controllers

All the talk about fixed thrusters, has me wondering about a practical way of rigging for control. I looked at Stanley's Idabel also, and don't really see much in the "down the hatch" view other than the MBT valves. Looks like the motor controllers are under the lip of the top sphere.

Looks like with Minn Kota, the Saltwater outboard mount 36V 202 lb thrust motor is ideal, and at 9k weight, probably what he is using in series there.
The fact that he "air compensated" is also of interest.

However, in looking at the rheostat control for this motor, it seems to me you need differential control of the various motors = a whole bunch of separate controls??

Problem for resolution.... How to rig control of the various motors (quite possibly 5) to make maneuvering intuitive and instantaneous, combine control where appropriate but, still maintain individual variable control??
