Thanks for the compliment Emile, I appreciate it especially because it comes from someone who makes good videos! As far as I know the "real" research subs always launch with the hatch closed as a safety precaution. However, they are launching off a ship, not a trailer. In my case, since the sub is sitting on a trailer it isn't going anywhere until it floats free. The open hatch facilitates communication. Am I missing some other sort of launch accident I haven't thought of? thanks, Alec ________________________________ From: owner-personal_submersibles@psubs.org on behalf of Emile Sent: Sat 11/25/2006 4:42 PM To: personal_submersibles@psubs.org Subject: RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Convention video Wow, great video Alec! Rain seems common for psub conventions.... Why launch the people at the convention the subs with open hatch? We use to close the hatch over here to prevent sinking when a launch accident occurs. The Alvin research sub was sunken (and retrieved) by a launch accident with open hatch. But I was just able to put together 5 minutes of decent content. When you listen to this please be sure to use something better than the tinny speaker I have on my laptop, the sound is nice if you can actually hear, so reach for those headphones! As usual I had to seriously degrade the image quality to upload, but I tried to keep the sound intact. I'm about to send Ray a DVD with good quality files of this and a second movie that is too long to put on YouTube, and he intends to offer them on the website. I'd also like to extend an invitation to those of you who attended the convention. If you email me your postal address offline, I'll send you a DVD. It's the least I can do. You're all in the credits at the end of the video for the various jobs you did those two days, and if you're in the credits you're entitled to a copy. If I missed you or got you in the wrong job, please advise. The music I used is all royalty free, so this can be distributed freely without violating anyone's rights. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnJZodE1SRI Happy thanksgiving everyone...
