Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Bendable Concrete

I talk to one of the people involved at Clawson Concrete in Mich. he told me that this system was developed in Japan and is a special mix using a type (F) fly ash.  Where the special fiber comes from I was not able to determine.  But he said is was expensive.  Also there is some type of additive that is a inhibitor that has to do with affecting the water in the mix.  He also said that there is no aggregate in the mix.  It has been used in Mich. in a number of test applications in some bridges and other areas, the long term durability may still be in question but it appears to be an excellent product.  Any more info anybody can find out would be greatly appreciated.

Subject: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Bendable Concrete

Bendable Concrete "ECC"... interesting material, might be of some interest to our community, considering concrete has always made an outstanding preasure vessel, but was too brittle to work with... no add plasticity to the mix and you might actually have a material usefull on a submersible.

Saw it on pupular mechanics at the following url...

Anyone have any more information on this stuff?
