Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] question

before reading my opinion on this, please consider that I've never
been in a situation similar to this, and all my thoughts are based
purely on my own life experience :-)

I suppose it would depend on what you want out of life - are you in a
position where you don't need your hobby to generate revenue? Do you
at some point wish to market the design yourself? Do you WANT to
relocate?

do you NEED the money they are offering you?

Or, would you be content knowing that your designs have gone as far as
they possibly could? Would you be content having access to a full
workshop and dive boat whenever you want? Would you be happy knowing
that without the transfer of ownership of your IP, many non divers
would never have seen the amazing things they could?

These are the sort of things I'd ask myself were I in that position.

Personally, I'd be happy if you sold your designs, as it would
increase the chances of being able to get hold of these myself :-)

Good luck with it all,

-Simon

Here's a hypothetical for you that would help me get off the fence on
something.

Say you showed an individual some of your work at their request and shortly
thereafter had some corporate interest in your work. Even so far as to
receive a job offer to continue your work on the corporate payroll. The
upside is a generous "buyout" to buy all your existing work and designs,
relocation assistance, good benefits and the promise a good amount of
independence on the project, plus a fully equipped machine shop and access
to a dive boat any time you need it.

The downsides
All your work transfers ownership
Future developments may become proprietary and or classified depending which
means you can't really publish your work anymore.

I'm really caught with the whole idea of losing the ownership of work.

Would you jump on the opportunity or continue working as a hobbyist?
