the solution of scuba gear for escape in shalow water not as advantageous
as it will seem,
first , the personal subs, shallow water, lets say an accident occur at a
depth of 30 to 50 meters, the pilot or crew will need to exit a small hatch
whith a tank carryng hoses, bad idea, hatches are small hoses get tangle,
shit happens, then you will need a lot of underwater experience no to panic
on a situation like that, probably the victim will hyperventilate, have an
accute pain on his hears and chest when the pressure diferential hits him,
and now that he is finally using compress air if the accent is not control
he will suffer a pneumotorax,
if the hoses are on the outside, the sub keeps on sinking, by the time the
diver can free himself it will be deep, narcosis will get him before the
sunligth.
a better option will be to have a close lifting bag atached to the ouside of
the vessel, quick deploy, whith a relief valve to compensate for the
difference in presure, this bag will need to be rig on a way not to intrude
whith hydrodinamics .
there is off the shelf gear that can be adapted easily to this purpose,
calculations , are available if somebody needs them.

sub and Jon's and some others are limited depth vehicles. I forgot that any
accident (well, nearly any) that might require flooding of these hulls would
occur in shallow water ... relatively speaking. Shallow enough to fall into
the sport/air diving categories which would certainly allow egress in a
SCUBA rig, and might even allow time to deploy buoys or lift lines or
something. So for the smaller shallower guys, SCUBA seems like a good
option.
