Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] PSUB Fatalities...View Ports...Shatterproof
I emailed Carston privately over the weekend and mentioned to him that the
pistol and shotgun protected my family on more than one occasion when I was
unfortunate enough to find us living in a HUD apartment complex while
attending the university.
You know there really is culture shock that is experienced and must be
adapted to if you should ever have to live in one of those places. After a
while you find yourself doing outragous things you would ordinarily not even
consider. In this type of environment you have to establish a "rep" for
zero tolerence of bullshit against your loved ones. And it helps if the
locals think you are just crazy enough to kick their door in 24/7 and start
blasting away. No need to worry about the police. I thought I could rely
on them at first, but it did not take long to realize they just don't care
about 2nd class citizens. Here's a good example:
Not long after moving into our apartment, we heard a noise in the attic. I
went into my little girls room closet which had the only access available to
the attic. I popped my head up in the attic and shined a flashlight around
and was shocked to see a young black male dart through a hole in the wall
that separated the neighboring attic from ours. Seems these guys had holes
connecting attics in the whole unit, and were using the attics instead of
the sidewalks--like everyone else with half a brain--to get from one
apartment to another. Needless to say, I was up their waiting the next time
with my trusty 870. Sure enough, guess who re-appears? He didn't
appreciate it when I shoved the barrel and magazine extension in his piehole
and then jacked a 3in. mag round into the chamber. In fact he pissed all
over himself and started crying. I called the police, but grew tired of
waiting for them after about an hour and kicked him out the front door in
front of his buddies sitting around sucking on Old English 40s. I blasted 5
or 6 rounds into the air just to get their attention. At 2:00 in the
morning it sounded like a howitzer! On other occasions:
I threw a burgler out our 2nd story window onto the sidewalk.
I beat 3 guys into submission with a 3-iron (and then busted their car
windows out).
I tried to run over 8 of the brothers that were standing together in a group
blocking my way into my parking lot when I returned home one night. I
blowed the horn first, but they just would not budge. After parking, I got
out and just glared at them as I entered my apartment. And the list goes on
and on...
Yeah, I developed a reputation, and all the while going to school for a
degree in Social Work.
Point is I guess, the bulk of violence that takes place with firearms
happens in this type of environment. It's kill, or be killed in some cases.
Other times it has to do with poverty, or just plain ignorance and lack of
socialization, or poor socialization as in the case of those middle-class
boys in Columbine.
I think a person should have to undergo a competency test in order to own
and operate a firearm not unlike an automobile. If only the current laws
that forbid ownership by felons or the mentally ill were enforced we would
probable see a great reduction in gun violence.
