[PSUBS-MAILIST] Private-Luxury-Submarines was..
Hi Paul,
I meet Bruce Jones and also his chief designer Paul Moorhouse
(a British fellow) some years ago (5-6 ?) on the Megayacht
show at Nice, France. We had some smalltalks about the Phoenix and the
other designs they had displayed there.
Paul ask me to work for him in the US later - if they get the Phoenix
contract they are working for at these time..
But I love my job here, and hate to protect me, my wife, our tomcat
or my house with AK47 guns - and they did not got the contract to build
the Phoenix after they finished the design studies.
On the show-display of the yard I am working for, we had also displayed
a small (100 feet long, two decks.., crew of 4-6, 6 at owners party,
and side windows in the salon which will get Pat crazy..) private
submarine design because I think the time was right for the rich fellows
to buy such things. But we went all wrong. Up today nobody has ordered a
bigger private submarine as autonomus private yacht.
Not from US Submarines and not from me..
One reason is maybe that then fellows which own a big yacht in the
equal 150 feet range wanted that everbody saw his ship.
And a submarine inside the harbour - you will not see so much.
Paul Moorhouse is the designer of the famous Marlin S101 and S102
and I think also S103. I like his designs very much because they
all autonomus concepts. 2 month ago I have looked around to buy one
of his old S101 or S102 - but they were allready sold for much more
money than I have.. and more than the newbuild-price many years ago.
The Phoenix design is very simillar to the XXI war boats of the
WWII. Double engine which one siderudder between the propellers.
Thats means that the propeller thrust will not be use by
the siderudder. Thats indicate a real big turn-around-cyle if you want
to turn your boat 180 degrees.. (on XXI about 900m diameter..)
We lost contact later - but you can ask Bruce Jones everythink
about Tourist submarines. I think he knows every Tourist sub
ever built.
