Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] WE HAVE A MAP!!! [was:Sub Locations / Directory]

Rick

"Back in 1975 I dived in warm water for the first time.  Key Largo"

Coldest day of the season today 48 deg this morning, we break out the parkas and let the tourists do the swimming.

"You know, I just looked at the map again of John Pennecamp.  It doesn't seem that far from land.  I swear we were past the horizon.  Am I hallucinating?"

About 3 miles to the reefs. The Keys are low lying, you were too busy to notice.

"Back in 1975 I dived in warm water for the first time.  Key Largo.  Saw my first barracuda (over three feet) at the Christ statue in John Pennecamp."

Like a New Yorker who has never been to the Stautue of Liberty, I've never been to this one; I need to rectify that. It's at Frenches reef, I broke down on the way once and got some weather another time. Cudas like to watch divers, the only trouble you ever have with them is stealing your catch when line fishing...damn thieves leave you with the head on a hook!

"Key Biscane looks like a real playground.  The visibility must be great."

I remember when Biscayne Bay was crystal clear under the Miami Herald bridge. We are a city now. Out further in the bay and offshore you have to pick your days. The Keys are still an aquarium when the wind is calm.

"Now you've got me curious - any intentions of uploading your pic"

Just did.

Take care

Joe

Joseph - I love it.  It seems to add a dimension to our group I didn't expect.  Context, I guess.  Takes it from distant email voices to something a little more concrete (albeit still electronic)     :-)

I noticed your name.  I checked out your area.  Wow.  Key Biscane looks like a real playground.  The visibility must be great.  It must have lots of boat/sub launches.  Talk about diving.  If you get tired of Atlantic swells, you can wheelbarrow your gear to the west side and voila.  Or you can stay down about twenty or so feet with your sub and follow the bottom!  Way kewl.

Back in 1975 I dived in warm water for the first time.  Key Largo.  Saw my first barracuda (over three feet) at the Christ statue in John Pennecamp.  It was truly weird being out of sight of land in a small boat and get washed up onto a coral head two feet deep!!!  It took over a year for the sea urchin spines to disappear from my right knee.

You know, I just looked at the map again of John Pennecamp.  It doesn't seem that far from land.  I swear we were past the horizon.  Am I hallucinating?

Regarding the bounty, don't laugh - our dollar's up to 0.85 USD.  It may actually be worth your while to come up here and arrest me!!  I think the Mounties are good for the money.  They may ask you to speak french.  And for God's sake, don't tell them you're Republican  ;-)

Now you've got me curious - any intentions of uploading your pic (your face, not your sub).  As the host of the site I felt compelled to at least show what I looked like.  I made sure to keep it a bit fuzzy in case someone wanted to use it for identity theft.

Bye for now,
Rick L

Hey Rick,

I just added myself to the map, what a neat thing!

I think I recognize the mug shot from the Royal Canadian Mounties website...a 50K reward I believe! :)

Joe

Thanks for setting it up!

Alright!  Unless someone else beat me to the punch, I've created a PSUBBERS map at Frappr.

I put my mug up there, too.  Hopefully if we know what we look like it'll build an even tighter community.

I've sent the list an invitation from the site itself but here it is again.  http://www.frappr.com/
