I believe I read somewhere that the full sized Nautilus model used in
the 1954 Disney film cut ping pong balls in half for all the rivets.
Of course that model was for surface use only. You would have to fill
yours with something that would not crush.
I have considered the
faux rivets. I was thinking of molding them out of resin or body filler ot
fiberglass.
I haven't looked into the appropriate process for it
yet because it'd be cosmetic. I'd be taking alot of
creative
licence with the design and not so much making a scale
replica.
The Aligator would make for a great go-fast sub
but I'm afraid that there does not look to be much room for viewports or
movement about the cabin. Incorporating some of the elements of the design
however is worth
looking into!
