Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Venting an ambient sub

Hi Pierre,
My sub will be poplar wood covered in fiberglass. Hull shape is essentially
6' long by 3' wide, looking somewhat like an overturned canoe, with a 1/4 "
thick 22" diameter Acrylic dome on top, hull ends will be tapered.
Batt. box, seat,
ballast weight, will be suspended just below the hull. Two smaller 7" dia. domes
will be added to provide vision downward. It will be powered by a
single electric
trolling motor employing a Kort nozzle for yaw control. Small diving planes will
provide pitch control. A single 80cu ft scuba tank will provide the
air. A medical
flow meter will bleed in 20 lpm, a gate valve will vent the "cabin"
air to maintain
a constant level of water with an adequate air exchange. There will be
a separate
bulkheaded ballast tank forward, with it's own controls, all of which
will be manual.
Analog instruments will include depth and tank pressure gauge, and a digital
dive computer. I live here in sunny Florida so I don't mind having
approx half my
body immersed in water. I would like to keep the water at waist level, leaving
the rest of me relatively dry. I will be diving the sub in Crystal
River and the various
springs which have very clear water with depths about 20'. Max depth
will be 2 atms. At this stage I'm just building sub components, this
will be a long labor
of love. I think that about does it. What do you think, should my wife takeout
a higher insurance policy on me. : )
Best Regards, Carlos
