Hi Dean, To be used as a VBT, I would think it needs to be inside the pressure hull. I've seriously considering adding a one-way soft VBT to my K sub in the form of a fuel bladder and perhaps even use a little high pressure electric pump to make it a two way VBT. Those would give me more useful space inside and might be cheaper then a 316 SS hard VBT. Inflating the fire hose on the exterior, higher on your sub would perhaps be a good emergency lifting force, much like my inflatable pontoons, and lift bags. But you might need dump valves as well, by those hoses can stand a hell of a lot more internal pressure then my inflatable pontoons. I have the idea of using a fire hose for a VBT.
I am a volunteer fireman and one day putting out a fire it dawned on me
that say a 3" diameter
hose could be used for a soft VBT. It could be run along the perimeter
under the super structure
of my sub. The two ends can be screwed together and an air line attached.
We have tested these
hoses to 600 psi and are very very durable.
Any thoughts on this?
I would be using this when extra equipment and or weight would be
onboard.
Not to mention an additional safety item.
Dean
