| Jürgen,
I will take this into consideration and perhaps acquire the book. I have an interest in this era, the people, and early technologies. I particularly find people like this who are so far ahead of time fascinating.

P.S.  No umlaut on my computer so I borrowed yours. :)

An interesting mechanical translation. I read the same intro in Spanish and a bit is lost in translation. Where in Spanish the sentence structure makes sense, this is lost a bit in the English translation. Interesting though, thank you!

The book Ensayo sobre la navegacion bajo el agua  is very good. Here Monturiol explains every detail of his submarine Ictineo 2 form how to produce the chemicals for the termochemical reaction to how to dive and measure oxigen in the cabin and every instrument he used in his sub. There are also drawing and plans of almost every thing.  It is really nice to read and specially if you think it was written in the XIX century, he deals with al the problems of travveling under water. And most of the topics are still modern and actual. I can only encorage  every one to read it.
 Best wishes
 Jürgen

 Jay & Joseph,

The only book in english I have is the one called "Monturiol's Dream" by
Matthew Steward. A great book in itself, but far from a translation of the
texts written by the submarine designer and builder Narciso Monturiol
himself. The original Monturiol book is republished, and one that I am
going to buy (even if my one year course in spanish was 40 years ago).

However, please let me know if there is an english version, and where to
 get it.

 best
 regards,
 Jens
