DavidThe canoe were propelled by a 1/2 hp DC motor, and managed a top speed of 4.4 knots. However, normal cruising speed on surface was never more than 3 knots (3.1). At this speed the operational range (based on batteries alone) is said to have been about 26 nautical miles. The total weight of the craft was 660 lbs.
Depth limit was set to no more than 50 feet (for reasons Jay has already mentioned), and the canoe was designed to operate with a minimum amount of positive buoyancy when diving.

David, The canoe was only used in shallow dives as the driver was using an oxygen rebreather rig for life support. Limpet mines with magnet attachment was the weapon of choice. The canoes experienced major buoyancy/ballastingissues and could not be easily held under a ship's hull to emplace the minesby the diver. R/Jay
