Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Frank D. test model

Thanks Paul. Although I try to calculate all the weights, dimensions, pressures,  forces, capacities, and all the other things that have an impact on the sub, I've always liked the idea of using hard models to test my hair brained theories. I've had some success and lots of failures using this method, and the time and effort to build the models/mock-ups has shown me lots of things that I had not seen in the original designs. If you remember way back, I started with a very different design and because of the models, learned it " just wasn't going to work."
The biggest changes came when I took my paper designs and built the card board full size mock-ups. That was a real eye opener. Over the last few years the design has changed many times and after all the modeling and testing I think I have a workable design that should perform the intended tasks.
The design is modular so changes for future expansion and increased capability have been incorporated to allow relatively easy addition of another section. Specifically, I have plans in the works for a new larger rear section that will simply bolt on where I'll have room for an on-board diesel motor/gen set, increased battery capacity, sleeping quarters, fuel tanks, and increased communication station area.
This will require adding another separate pressure hull to the back end accessed through a pressure hatch with a large bolt on flange.
The new rear section would be removable so I can still use just the small sub alone for close-in dives, or bolt on the new section for extended travels.
This of course will take some time to work out all the details and right now I'm trying to get the first part done. So far so good. Hoping to launch next spring. Frank D.
