Frank, Very pro model! Plastic arrived as planned. Will be using disks of rubber 3/8" thick on outside surface with molding plastic around and supporting from under outer edges. I needed to keep this front surface to where it could still transfer vibrations into the water. Disks that are 5" in diameter and 3/8" thick were only $6.00 each so I ordered two. If totally enclosed in hardened plastic, I was afraid it would muffle the intended outgoing voice comms. Here's a couple of pics of my test model. I weighted it to neutral, and used it to check how the water flow around it was, how stable it was while moving on the surface and submerged, how quickly it "righted" itself when submerged upside down, and what happened when the weight was shifted forward and back a bit. I'm working on the design for a sliding weight under the floor to affect changes in dive angle.
It performed well on all tests. Although it wasn't a "scientific" test, I'm pretty happy with the stability, and also how little force it took to move it through the water. My friend let me use his pool and we had a fun time playing with it there.
It's not exact, but is a pretty close copy of the real one.
I'll be giving it to my grand sons now while I continue to build the sub. I have decided on a name for it. It's called "The Kracken".
The next big expense is the stainless ballast tanks, as I'm almost done with the fiberglass fairings.
