RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] ABS Rules Update

Jon,

While it might not be convenient for use, I can see from ABS' view that it
is much easier to manage all of their standards in the current format.

There's alot of great info in there and we could easily just adopt them as
our own. The one thing I don't like is that they have a tendency to group
multiple vessel types together which makes it tedious sometimes to get to
the direct info you want. For example, the surveying rules include floating
dry docks, offshore racing yachts, boilers, etc. But Chapter 1 is
applicable to all. I wish ABS would sort their document out into specific
vehicles. That would no doubt multiple documents would contain the same
words and chapters (duplication) which could (but shouldn't if they had the
right software) make it more difficult for them to edit when it comes time
for updates, but certainly would make it easier for the target audience to
home in on their specific vessel type without jumping in and out of two,
three, or more separate documents.

What's better? The docs as is, or grouping everything relevant to
submersibles into one document?

Jon
