RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] MBT Vents

My new one is on the new sub, but I'm also in the middle of rebuilding Snoopy where I have the old arrangement, and that's where I'm looking for larger bore alternatives. All of my other ball valves lack a flat side. They are either "two part" or "three part" valves. Maybe this is called a "one part" or something. Thanks in advance for looking it up.

I'll look it up, but all ball valves have some sort of flat where the stem penetration and packing adjustment is. If you've already changed to penetration to a reach rod assembly, why not just set the valve further out on a small bracket and stick a SS universal between them. I've turned assemblies like that about a million times on Perry boats.

Hi Vance,

I've got exactly that arrangement but am wanting larger bore valves. D'you have any idea what that sort of valve George used is called? They're not regular ball valves, they're a sort of ball valve in a hex shaped body that has a flat surface to mate against the hull. I just don't know what these things are called to go looking for them.

thanks,

Alec

George's favorite goop--RTV. You take the handle and follower off and run the screws through the hull along with the shaft. Let it set, snug it up, stick the handle back on and you've got a done deal. Sounds awful, but it worked just fine and cost a grand total of about a dollar two-ninety-eight, plus valve.

How is the valve handle sealed at the point where it penetrates the hull ? I've seen both configurations but couldn't see how the handle penetration is sealed.
