I know several guys who worked on the NR-1 over the years at Electric Boat. Keep in mind, she is 130 feet long and the reactor/steam generator/turbine package is about ALL she can carry. The crew quarters are about what you'd find in your average Winnebago. And, of course, the paperwork required to operate the thing ended up weighing about the same as the submarine.

You might be surprised to see how small a sub can accomodate a nuclear
powerplant. Look up the US Navy's recently retired NR-1 research sub.
