Hi Alan,
I was concerned about that myself, but will have a side scan sonar aboard and the side benefit is a distance to the bottom reading.
While really not a depth gauge as the reading will vary with bottom structure and depth, it should let me know quickly how well I have achieved neutral bouyancy.
I'll let you know how well it works when I'm done testing.
