Frank, I'm persuing this.
I've made inquiries with a company that makes them to order.
On the magnetic rotary version you can specify the diameter, internal hole
diameter, degree (ie 180 degree range of operation) &
resistance etc.
Not sure how keen they'll be to do a one off or what It'll cost.
They state that the magnetic membrane potentiators can be operated through
a case by a magnet.
It may be a matter of ordering one with 180 degrees with a large
enough internal diameter, encasing it, fitting it around the bar
your
motor is mounted on, & fixing it near the hull.
You can buy stock linear membrane potentiometers that are quite long.
Perhaps they could be bent to the contour of the sweep of the rudder, then
it would be a matter of heating up a couple of peices of acrylic sheet
& bending to form a pressure resistant enclosure.
