We do get 40s and50s but they have a minus sign in front of em.
Shouldn't complain this
year it has been one of the nicest's winters ever, -37 was the
coldest we got. I have seen
- 60, but don't know how cold it got cause the
thermometer broke at the - 60.
I am planning on 24" X 20' pontoons at the moment, but I might put
2 on each side. Thinking
that would stabilize the beast a bit. I am thinking on just
raising it 12 to 18 inches, not lifting
it completely out. Hydraulics to do the main lift with a
winch also for dunk tests and such.
My initial calculations say I am going to have to use some pretty
serious steel in the beast.
I am planning on just driving in the back and a lift point at the
center. Some sort of a closing
bar across the back, and some sort of tie down method. The thing
will just be towed with my
35' Chris Craft.

I hear you. Cold. I complain about Florida when it gets down into the 40s
and 50s. You pray for that. I remember, which goes a long way to explain why
I'm here, rather than there.
George's catamaran used 40' X 3' cylinders and could carry diesels,
pilothouse and a 3-ton sub with ease. Slow as Christmas, but solid. All steel.
I didn't like the short ramp in back (would have put the pivot way up forward
with beams to the open ramp/bay so you could manage the sub in rougher water.
Still, it was dirt cheap for a 40' boat.

not sure on that one. Don't know what it looks like yet, but I
gotta get it built in the
next couple of months.
Up here we don't use a lot of "T"s. Your tongue freezes to the
roof of your mouth. hehe

Hey Frank I am just getting back to the sub. Something about a
house I have been building
for the last 8 yrs not being done. That and the budget was
gone.
I think I have the motor problem solved, and yes am adding
foam. Not to mention numerous
other modifications. Boy my second sub will be a lot easier.
I also need to build my surface support pontoonie thing. Then
get in some good dunk tests
and start having fun.

Hi Dean. You must be psychic. I was just thinking about you.
How's the sub coming along.
On the splash shield, the hinged plates can't go past the point as
shown because of the way I imagined the little SS hinges. Like I said a
little earlier, the sketch is just a "concept " thing. Mostly to show the
innertube. Like most of my drawings, when I actually get to cutting
and welding stuff, the little details get worked out. On this particular
idea, you'll notice the hatch hinge isn't shown.....the shield would need
to encompass the hinge.
On your boat......did you get your motor problem worked out ?
You had mentioned you may be looking at adding some syntactic foam
for additional buoyancy reserve.
Is there any stuff you could replace with aluminum to shave a little
weight off ?
I know it's been a tough winter up there. Hope all is well with you
and family.
Will we see you guys in Florida ? You can come and stay at my house
in Daytona if you'd like. It's a bit of a drive to FT. Pierce, but not too
bad.
