No I appreciate your comments, just thought if someone already designed it, and its available.? Particularly to take the hydraulics thorough the hull wall.

Hi Martin. As I mentioned before, Minnkota and Lenco have trim tab systems with position indicating LED's that can be used for our submarines. Some extra sealing or maybe oil compensation would be required to go deep but the whole system is there. The problem is the cost and number of wires used.

A hydraulic system is reliable but the cost and complexity is an issue. We're trying to make a position sensor that's both cheap and simple. Remember the KISS rule. Reliability is the main objective.
