Hi Hugh. Yes, speed is a concern. The actuators don't have the shaft coming out the back so the overall length is increased to 14 inches to include the rod in the "closed" position. Oil compensation will negate the pressure differential, so just getting them sealed should take care of that.
This particular unit is rated at 40 pounds push/pull, holding power is 100 pounds, and full load speed is .7 inches per second with a 6 inch stroke. I also have a 12 inch stroke one that is rated at 150 pounds push/pull but it's speed is slower at .4 inches per second. The length is about 17 inches. The shaft on both is 5/8 inch diameter and the casing is 2 inches square.
