I've been googling professor Carl & found his home page with links to 
several
articles & videos.

interesting stuff. I'd read & been told by a composite engineer that there 
wasn't
much difference between fiberglass / epoxy & carbonfibre / epoxy as far as 
compression was concerned.
However his carbonfibre models were going to 3 or 4 x the pressure.
In his "My Space" site he says he would like to meet people interested in 
submarines.
Perhaps you could video link him to the Psub conference.
